At Parkinson Lane Community Primary School, we have designed a Geography Curriculum which enables children to achieve consistently highly, through progressively knowing more, remembering more and doing more as well as understanding more through EYFS-Y6. We do this by engaging pupils through a bespoke, personalised and challenging Geography curriculum, which fosters pupils’ curiosity and sense of wonder about the beauty of the world around them and its people. It equips them with subject knowledge that enables them to understand the interaction between the physical and human processes which affect their lives, as well as the formation and use of landscapes and environments. We will help to prepare them for the increasingly urgent and complex geography issues and challenges that will arise during their lifetime. We seek to encourage pupils to learn their geography through enquiries about topics, places, and themes. Whilst knowing facts is important, we ensure that there is always a balance between knowledge acquisition, the development of important subject skills and the ability of children to think critically about what they are learning and why.
