Intent
At Parkinson Lane Community Primary School, we pride ourselves on having a holistic approach to Physical Education which provides all learners with the physical, social and emotional skills needed to prepare them for life in the wider society.
In order to achieve this, we adopted an approach and supporting resources that directly aligns with the vision and values of our school. We know active, healthy children achieve more. It is essential that Physical Education supports the philosophy of our School, develops the whole child and that every pupil feels included, challenged and supported.
1. Head (cognitive domain) – the development of content knowledge and intellectual skills.
2. Hand (psychomotor domain) – the development of the physical skills/knowledge.
3. Heart: (affective/social domain) – the development of students’ feelings, attitudes and values.
In addition to these areas, we aim to provide a range of opportunities for all children to partake in a range of sporting events and thematic learning weeks, where they can apply and further their knowledge, skills and resilience across a range of contexts.
Our curriculum provision has been designed to respond to needs of the local community where there are high-levels of deprivation and limited sporting opportunities. It is essential that we make the best sustainable use of our sports premium funding to ensure that all children are provided with high-quality resources, learning opportunities and experiences which they cannot access outside of school. We intend to provide all children with enrichment opportunities through the provision of over 50 different sporting clubs (including those for SEND learners) as well as the important development physical skills and knowledge pertaining to cycling and swimming. We also aim to provide all our children with adventurous, outdoor physical education opportunities which include taking them to the places such as the Lake District and Wales.
Our inclusive approach to PE has received national recognition from the Sporting Charity Panathlon.
We have also been accredited with a Centre of Excellence status from the Yorkshire Sport Foundation for Physical Activity.
